  About CIPS
  HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

The College of Insurance and Professional Studies (CIPS) formerly known as the Insurance College of Jamaica (ICOJ) started operations in April 1980 as a private tertiary institution and is registered by the University Council of Jamaica.

The College was registered as a non-profit educational institution limited by guarantee under the Companies Act of Jamaica on November 11, 1981 and is now the official educational arm of the Insurance Institute of Jamaica.

Since its inception, the College has assisted members of the industry to achieve the Associate of Chartered Insurance Insitute (ACII), a U.K. based examination. In addition, CIPS has graduated Jamaica Insurance Diploma holders and hundreds of persons have benefited from the many specially arranged courses held through each academic year.

As the College seeks to broaden its scope of training, greater linkages with the life sector and other professional bodies and institutions have been made, and in this regard plans are well advanced for it to become a facilitator for providing more internationally recognized professional qualifications such as the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA)

Established to provide training for the General Insurance Industry, the College has expanded its scope and mission to offer similar services to the wider business community – hence the change of name to the College of Insurance and Professional Studies (CIPS).

CIPS is the premier educational institution servicing the insurance industry and has constantly reviewed its operations not only to adequately satisfy the needs of its primary market, but also offering its service to the wider community.
